Have you heard of intellectuals who will deny no matter what, that a person is not guilty? The best part is the person in question would have agreed that they are guilty, and yet we’d have saint-like souls, who think their word is the final and ultimate truth, clamp for that person.

Traffic police appointed “Bike and Car Towing specialists” need some magnifying glasses to read signals themselves. They couldn’t damn see that the parking sign showed “Park on both sides”, and they had to prick on two bikes ONLY, of all the 10 bikes! Yes, fortunately[?!] mine was one of them.

All they expect is some “Matter”, athu irrundha pothum[That's more than enough] and then, the official state [pun intended] coffers, will have their “rounds” with your “dhanam”, offering, go to the local sarayam kadai [Arrack shop], and harass souls there, get some more matter to shop for their family and the chain goes on…

Let them survive, BUT, NOT FROM my wallet that already has a lot of breathing space, and worse still, when they or their attendants can’t read sign boards themselves.

I thought I could lodge a complaint, but it’s worthless.

Advice Time: [Based on today's official bribe-giving experience]

If any cop/attendant raises his/her folded hand in that “yabba sami, vendaam pa” [Ayyo, i don't want anything to do with that] pose, you must take it as a sign that they indeed want it. A little more persuasion will save you hundred ruppes of the three hundred rupee fine. Think about it bribe or honesty at a price? Worse honesty for no wrong on your part.

Thalai Vali poydthu-nu sandosham-a irrukanum [You should be happy the head-ache's left you], instead of sitting around and trying to explain to them that you did not park at the wrong place.

Sucks I know.

And that experience marks my official entry into the funny way in which one should give bribes and coax people to accept it.

And I hope this rant was of some use, to some soul who may get itself into a similar position, whenever.
